I don't know if commercially sold Avirex jackets have these mods, but if 100% historical accuracy is an issue, check before you get one. I highly recommend them, though, as far as quality goes. I agree on the sizing issue -- if there's any doubt in your mind, order one size bigger that what you'd planned on (in addition to the size you want), then return the one that doesn't fit well. A-2s by design tend to not fit broad-shouldered people and are tight across the arms (unless you have the armpit modification like I mentioned above), so if you haven't tried one on, you'll probably be surprised that the larger size fits better. Avirex Jackets: I purchased a Cooper A-2 commercially about 10 years ago. I was relatively happy with it until I was issued an Avirex jackets A-2 in goat through the Air Force. The Avirex is *far* better in terms of construction quality, but the "current issue" military jacket is not historically accurate to the WW2 design while the Cooper is (if that matters to you). The newest designs have deleted the hook on the collar while adding slit pockets (well hidden, but still there) and extra material under the armpits for easier movement. Avirex Jackets: FUBU is straight corny, Ecko is pretty fresh, but since a lot of "timmys" are starting to rock it, it will soon be played. Avirex jackets are tired as hell. To me, they have been played out for about 2 years now. Next year, if I see someone wearing one, I will laugh out loud like when I see some bum sporting an 8-Ball. Avirex Jackets: The Eastman jacket has an *eight month* waiting list, plus I'll be hit with a large import duty into Oz. The Cooper and Avirex jackets, well, if you look at the book, are really inaccurate!!! Why, if they purport to be "totally authentic", aren't they? Avirex Jackets: AVIREX jackets are current issue items only, and they try to pass themselves as reproducing WWII jackets, which they definatly are not. My first A-2 was an AVIREX horsehide MacAurthur model, and they sold it as a WWII reproduction. It isn't, it's just their current model in "russet" horsehide, and has a cotton lining.
