I have an Ameda "Purely Yours" breast pump that is only 6 months old and I only used it for 3 months--my baby weaned very early!! I have all the original packaging, the receipt, the manual, and some extra storage bottles. This breast pump is a double pumping system and can operate off of batteries or electricity. It comes with a nice double-handled cloth carrier. ameda breast pump: In my experience, it's very very useful to own a breast pump. I own a 2nd- hand Medela 'Pump In Style' electric double pump, and an Ameda/Egnell one- hand hand pump. I use them according to my needs. I'll be going to the UK and France later in the year, and will take the Ameda pump along, since it's lightweight and performs adequately (although I have a hard time getting let- down with it). But how wonderful to be able to express milk during the initial engorgement period (if you have one). How wonderful to be able to put milk away in the freezer! I've seen pictures of older breastpumps, the kind that look like bicycle horns. Bleah. We've come a long way. ameda breast pump: In my experience, hand-expression is much more time-consuming compared to pumping, though it's certainly doable. I get more milk, much faster, with the Medela pump. I even get more faster with the Ameda/Egnell breast pump. But YMMV - every woman's breasts are different, and you might have a very easy time expressing by hand. ameda breast pump: I had bought a manual ameda breast pump for the times when I would have to go out or whatever, so one day, in despair, I decided to try it. At first, it took some getting used to, but I was amazed to see the milk come out so fast and the best part was that even though my nipples were in bad shape, I felt a lot less pain than when my baby was sucking. Also, my little one always accepted the bottle easily, she even seemed to like it better. So I decided to keep doing that until my nipples healed completely. It took about two weeks and by then I was an expert with the ameda breast pump. I would express my milk and give it to her in a bottle.
