graco booster seat: We got a Graco, the one that was top-rated by Consumer Reports in January (or so) of 1999. I found the strap easier to adjust than my old Century, it had a buckle type thing, no bar to raise/lower. However, it was harder than the convertable infant/toddler seats which adjust from the front. As my daughter had some problems gaining weight, we didn't have to adjust the graco booster seat as often as some :-(.

graco booster seat: Look at the Graco booster seat convertible seats (they have several different models) which are generally pretty well rated and cost around $80. If your daughter is not *taller* than the maximum listed for the seat in the rear-facing position, you should keep her rear facing as long as you can, even if her legs are a bit cramped, but if the top of her head is more than an inch above the back of the seat, it's time to turn her around.

graco booster seat: My 2 boys didn't reach 20 Lbs 'til nearly 1st birthday. Boy #2 is only 23 Lbs at age 18 mo!! Our problem was although they were in the 25th percentile (both of them) for weight, they were tall (the 50th and 75th percentile!). Our kids outgrew their graco booster seat due to height and the tight fit in the crotch. The 2nd kid was trying to repel off the back seat in his car seat and the older one did it in his forward facing seat (we used the step up approach of car seats -- first with an "infant" seat, then the traditional car seats to 40 lbs and now the older one has a "booster" seat). I had the booster seat the most (I am not convinced they are really safe at all) but he outgrew his traditional car seat with weight limit to 40 Lbs due to his height!
